Walker Buehler struck out 11 over six sharp innings in his best outing of the shortened season, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Friday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers (20-8) earned their ninth victory in 10 games and became the first team in the majors to win 20 this season. Every player in the Los Angeles lineup had a hit except Austin Barnes, although the catcher had a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Buehler (1-0) gave up four hits on 92 pitches in his fifth start of the season and didn’t issue a walk in going past five innings for the first time. The right-hander was coming off his worst outing of the year. He gave up five runs (four earned) and six hits in 4 ⅔ innings against the Angels last weekend.
Padres 4, Astros 3: Manny Machado had an RBI single and scored on Jake Cronenworth’s double in a two-run sixth as host San Diego ended Houston’s winning streak at eight games and helped knock the Astros 3½ games behind the first-place A’s in the AL West.
Tigers 10, Indians 5: Rookie Isaac Paredes hit a grand slam for his first major-league homer and visiting Detroit snapped a 20-game losing streak against Cleveland. The Tigers also ended a nine-game slide that included being swept at home last weekend by the Indians. Cleveland’s 20-game dominance of Detroit was the second-longest streak against one opponent since division play began in 1969. Baltimore holds the record with 23 consecutive wins over Kansas City in 1969-70.
White Sox 10, Cubs 1: Jose Abreu hit two home runs and the White Sox went deep six times to back Dallas Keuchel in a romp at Wrigley Field. The White Sox (16-11) pounded Jon Lester (2-1) and matched a season high with their sixth straight win. They moved five games above .500 for the first time since they were 27-22 in 2016.
Blue Jays 6, Rays 5: Cavan Biggio and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each drove in a run during the 10th inning to help visiting Toronto win its sixth consecutive game. Teoscar Hernandez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered during a three-pitch stretch in the second. The Blue Jays have gone deep 28 times over their past 11 games.
Mariners 7, Rangers 4: Rookie Kyle Lewis hit a solo home run and Nick Margevicius matched his career high with seven strikeouts, leading host Seattle.
Braves 11, Phillies 2: Marcell Ozuna homered twice and drove in four runs as host Atlanta roughed up Aaron Nola. Travis d’Arnaud, who drove in three runs, and Ozuna each got three hits.
Red Sox 8, Orioles 5: Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers homered as visiting Boston won its season-high third in a row. John Means (0-2) took the loss as Baltimore dropped its sixth straight game.
