The Big 12 Conference reaffirmed its decision to press on with college football and other fall sports Wednesday, joining the ACC and SEC in taking the field amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The move came one day after the Pac-12 and Big Ten announced they would not be participating this fall.

The Big 12 board of directors approved a plan to begin fall sports after Sept. 1 with football playing a schedule in which each team can play one non-conference game before league play begins Sept. 26.

The league’s schools have agreed to enhanced coronavirus testing that includes three tests per week.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in a statement: “We are comfortable in our institutions’ ability to provide a structured training environment, rigorous testing and surveillance, hospital quality sanitation and mitigation practices that optimize the health and safety of our student-athletes.”

NFL: The Buffalo Bills reportedly signed coach Sean McDermott to a four-year extension that runs through the 2025 season.

• The Denver Broncos signed offensive tackle Demar Dotson, who spent his first 11 NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to a one-year deal.

• Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson returned after missing less than two weeks because of the coronavirus.

Motor sports: NASCAR’s only Black full-time driver, Bubba Wallace, has signed a new sponsor that includes funding for his Richard Petty Motorsports team.

Columbia Sportswear Co. announced a multiyear sponsorship with Wallace as a brand ambassador that will also put the company on the No. 43 beginning at Dover this month.

Tennis: American Coco Gauff, 16, overcame shaky serving to beat No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 and reach the Top Seed Open quarterfinals in Lexington, Ky.

Soccer: David Accam scored in the 86th minute to give Nashville SC a 1-0 victory at FC Dallas in the first match for both teams since the MLS shut down the season in March because of the coronavirus.

Nashville and Dallas were forced to withdraw from the MLS is Back tournament this past month in Florida because of positive coronavirus tests.

Wednesday’s game was the first of the league’s restart of the regular season.
